From Roadside Stands to Hilo’s 150-Vendor Market: What You’ll Find and What to Bring
The Big Island has more than 30 farmers markets spread across every part of the island. Most run one or two days a week, but there are enough of them that you can fit one into almost any day of your trip without going out of your way.
The range is wide. Hilo’s Farmers Market runs Wednesday and Saturday with over 150 vendors and is the largest on the island. At the other end you have small roadside farm stands you can browse in a few minutes. Most sell a mix of fresh produce, prepared food, and locally made goods.
A few things worth knowing before you go
Many markets are cash-preferred or cash-only, parking at the Hilo market on busy days takes patience, and the hours below are advertised times — check social media or call ahead if you’re making a special trip.
Farmers Markets near Kona
The Kona side runs markets every day of the week, with Kailua-Kona as the main hub. The Kona Village Farmers Market and Aliʻi Garden Market Place on Aliʻi Drive are both within walking distance of downtown.
Further south, Keauhou adds two options along Aliʻi Drive, and South Kona near Captain Cook has a few smaller markets worth a stop if you’re heading that direction.

Keauhou Farmers Markets
About 6 miles south of Kailua-Kona on Aliʻi Drive, Keauhou has two markets: a Saturday morning market at Keauhou Shopping Center and a twice-weekly community market on the lawn at the Outrigger resort above Keauhou Bay.

South Kona / Captain Cook Farmers Markets
The stretch of Hwy. 11 between Holualoa and Captain Cook runs through coffee country about 10 to 16 miles south of Kailua-Kona. The South Kona Fruit Stand and Pure Kona Green Market are both near Captain Cook; the Pineapple Patch Farmstand is in Holualoa on the way down. Worth a stop if you’re heading to Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau or just driving south.

Farmers Markets near Hilo
Hilo has the largest concentration of farmers markets on the island, anchored by the Hilo Farmers Market at Kamehameha Ave. and Mamo St. with over 200 vendors on big market days. Several more are spread across Hilo town, from early-morning produce markets to the Hilo Town Friday Night Market in historic downtown.

Farmers Markets near Waimea
Waimea (Kamuela) supports a surprisingly dense cluster of markets for a small upcountry town, including the Waimea Town Market and two markets at Pukalani Stables: the Kamuela Farmers Market on Saturdays and the Pukalani Midweek Market on Wednesdays.
This section also covers three areas further out: the Hamakua Coast to the east, the Kohala Coast resort corridor to the northwest, and North Kohala at the island’s northern tip.

Hamakua Coast Farmers Markets
Honokāʻa is the main town on the Hamakua Coast, about 25 miles north of Hilo on Hwy. 19. The Farmers’ Market at Hāmākua Harvest runs Sunday mornings and only allows locally produced goods: no resellers.

Kohala Coast / Waikoloa Farmers Markets
The resort corridor along the Kohala Coast stretches north from Kailua-Kona, with Waikoloa Beach Resort as the main hub. The Kings’ Shops Farmers Market runs Tuesday mornings on the resort grounds, and the Waikoloa Community Market is nearby on Sundays. Most convenient if you’re staying at one of the Kohala Coast hotels.

Hawi sits at the northern tip of the island, about 20 miles from Waimea, in a former sugar plantation town with one of the more interesting main streets on the island. The Hawi Farmers’ Market at Kohala Village Hub runs Saturday mornings and draws producers from across the North Kohala district.

Farmers Markets near Volcano & Kaʻū
The Volcano Village and Kaʻū region has a handful of small but dedicated markets. The Volcano Village Farmers Market at Cooper Center runs Thursday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Further south on Hwy. 11, the Kaʻū market in Naʻālehu is the southernmost farmers market in the United States, and the Paradise Meadows Farm Stand near South Point is open daily.

Kaʻū (Naʻalehu) Farmers Market
Farmers MarketLocated in Naʻalehu, the southernmost town in the US, between Volcano and Kona on Hwy. 11. Wednesday is the main market day; Friday runs smaller. Look for the mountainside of the highway just before the mile 77 gas station.
Paradise Meadows Farm Stand
Farm StandA 75-acre working farm about 0.7 miles down South Point Road, near the southernmost point in the US. Locally grown produce, coffee, honey, macadamia nuts, and chocolate. Free samples and farm tours available. Open daily.
Farmers Markets in Puna
Puna is the Big Island’s most productive agricultural district, running along the lower East Rift Zone south of Hilo. The volcanic soil and high rainfall make it exceptional for papayas, tropical flowers, macadamia nuts, and specialty crops you won’t find in most markets. The Makūʻu Farmers Market on the Keaʻau-Pahoa bypass draws over 150 vendors on Sundays and is one of the largest on the island. The Kaimu Farmers Market at Kaimu Beach Park runs Saturday mornings on the southeast coast, and Uncle’s at Kalapana offers a Wednesday night market and a Saturday morning market near the coast.

Farmers MarketOne of the bigger east-side markets, with 60+ vendors and roughly 1,400 visitors every Saturday morning. It sits at Kaimu Beach Park in lower Puna, about 40 miles south of Hilo on the southeast coast. The Puna district is heavily agricultural, and that shows in the vendor mix: locally grown produce, prepared food, and artisan goods.
EBT/SNAP is accepted at most eligible vendors through a market scrip system. If you are heading down the coast toward Kalapana or any of the black sand beaches, this makes a natural first stop on a Saturday morning.
