Maui has five zipline courses, and the right one depends on what you came for. The one with the most lines and the most scenery, Jungle Ziplines in Haiku, is also among the cheapest. Kapalua is the premium pick: every line dual-racing, plus the longest suspension bridge in the state. Maui Zipline takes kids as young as five, North Shore is the best all-around value, and Skyline upcountry runs the only pendulum zip on Maui.
The five courses split by priority: scenery, family fit, beginner comfort, value, and thrill, one leading each. They run from Kapalua in the west to the north shore and upcountry, so your pick often starts with which side of the island you are on. Prices land between $139 and $240 per person. Below we compare them side by side on lines, terrain, and rider fit.

What is ziplining?
Zipline is a non-motorized experience in which a participant is hooked onto a cable via a harness and then rides (aka zips) down the length of the cable using gravity. The adrenaline rush comes from the speed of the ride and from a feeling of weightlessness provided by the harness and cable as you “fly” across long distances. Zipline courses differ in their length and intensity, but all are built in scenic places around the island.
What to expect on a zipline tour
Zipline tours generally begin with a short safety instruction and a fitting/introduction to your harness. After, you are transported to the start of the “course,” i.e. the first zipline. Some courses are designed so that the beginning of the next zipline is at the end of the one before it. Other courses require a short walk or hike to reach the next one. Depending on the tour, there may be extra stops and activities, or cultural explanations, as you make your way through the course.
Usually, zip line tours take between 2 and 3 hours. Other good things to know about ziplining:
- Ziplining is always guided. Each line, staff will assist with your gear and ensure safety.
- Some companies offer “dual-track” ziplines. Dual-track means that there are two lines (tracks) next to each other, allowing people to ride side-by-side with friends and family.
- You will wear a safety harness throughout the experience, including the walk or hike between tracks. These harnesses only come in limited sizes, which is why you will see size and/or weight restrictions (and they will differ by company).
- No prior experience or personal gear is necessary to zipline, but you will be required to wear close-toed shoes. Helmets and gloves are provided.
Zipline Tours on other Hawaiian islands
Because of the tropical nature, waterfalls, and volcanoes, ziplining is a popular activity on all Hawaiian islands. We have written comparisons of all zipline offerings in the state:
