How to support the lovebigisland website

By Gerrit van der Plas | updated March 10, 2026

Thank you for taking the time to read about the several ways you can support our website.

The creation and maintenance of this website is a work of love. Our mission is to share the Big Island that we know and love in such a way that the impact of tourism on the island is minimal. We want to make sure that the money you spend on your vacation supports the people that can use it the most: those living on and caring for the Big Island.

We do not ask for direct donations. If you would like to donate some of your time or money to help out the Big Island, please do so to one of our favorite local charities or volunteering opportunities. Mahalo!

However, there are two things that you can do to help us out and that won’t cost you any time or money:

  1. Use some of the affiliate links to book your flight/car/activities
  2. Share our website online

Support us by booking with our affiliate partners

To cover the costs we incur for hosting and developing this website we use affiliate links. We only partner up with organizations that we know can genuinely help our readers. The use of affiliate links helps us also to improve our website by keeping it up to date and by researching and creating new content.

We show no advertisement on our site because we don’t like ads. We do not allow sponsored posts because we want you to have full confidence that the opinions you read on LoveBigIsland are our own and are without bias.

Thank you for supporting LoveBigIsland.com so we can continue to provide you and future visitors with free and high quality information about the Big Island. You guys are amazing!

Our affiliate partners:

We make sure to pick our partners with care and only team up with companies that we use ourselves and recommend to our friends and family. Our current affiliate partners are:

  • Hawaiiactivities
  • Hawaii Tours
  • Hawaiian Airlines
  • Vrbo
  • Expedia
  • All About the View (see our tour section)
  • Body Glove ocean excursions (see our tour section)
  • Hawaiʻi Forest & Trail (see our tour section)
  • Kohala Zipline (see our tour section)

What is affiliate marketing?

Affiliate marketing is the process of earning a commission when a visitor buys a product from an affiliate partner. Learn more about affiliate marketing on Wikipedia.

What this means for you is that we receive a small percentage of the transaction as a reward if you make a successful booking with our affiliate partners. This does not cost you any extra money. The price of the vacation rental, rental car or flight stays the same, and you have access any promotion that is available through their websites.

Support us by sharing and recommending our content online

As goes for all websites, being visible online matters a lot to us.

  • Do you feel that the information we provide on this website has helped/is helping you enjoy your time on the Big Island more?
  • Do you know someone who would benefit from the information on our website?

Share the love, spread the word!

You can do so most easily using your social media accounts.  Follow us online,  share our content, or recommend us to your friends. It would be even better if you can mention how our website has helped you improve your time in Hawaii, please tag us when posting!
