Will McGough: Contributing Travel Writer

By Gerrit van der Plas | updated June 13, 2026

Will McGough is a contributing travel writer for Love Big Island. He wrote the site’s destination guides for Maui, Oʻahu, and Kauaʻi.

Will lived on Oʻahu for years and still leads tour groups in the islands. His writing has appeared in Condé Nast Traveler, AFAR, Forbes, Travel Channel, Outside Magazine, and Popular Mechanics, and he is the author of Swim, Bike, Bonk: Confessions of a Reluctant Triathlete. He also contributes to Love Oʻahu, our sister site. These days he is based in Colorado, which mostly means he gets to be jealous of the weather he writes about.

In 2017, the Hawaiʻi Ecotourism Association named Will Travel Writer of the Year.

Guides Will writes are reviewed and kept current by founder and editor Gerrit van der Plas, and each one shows its last-updated date. Read more about how we work in our editorial policy.
