The Voyagers of the Pacific oceanfront luau features an all-you-care-to-eat buffet that features many vegan, vegetarian and gluten free items, complimentary cocktails and a dazzling presentation of music, songs, and dance celebrating the epic journey of our Hawaiian ancestors who traveled thousands of miles across the vast Pacific Ocean to make Kona their home.
Luau timeline
Seating for the luau is on a first-come, first-served basis, so try to be there when the doors open at 04:45 pm if you want to get the best seating.
The Luau program starts at 5 pm with an aloha greeting and photo opportunities, followed by interactive island arts and crafts demonstrations. This luau is family-oriented and kid-friendly, and features special pre-show activities for kids including learning how to twirl Poi Balls, crafting their own flower wristband, and a temporary tattoo station.
Afterwards, the all you can eat buffet commences and of course the show that weaves a story of songs and dances of the South Pacific, culminating in the spectacular Samoan fire dance (Siva Afi).
The Imu ceremony
The imu is a traditional Hawaiian underground oven used to slow-roast a whole pig for the luau feast. At the Royal Kona Luau, the ceremony begins when the pig is uncovered from the earth oven, accompanied by a Hawaiian blessing. Guests are invited to gather around the pit to watch this unique tradition before the roasted pork is brought to the buffet.

As part of the Luau experience, the audience is invited to gather around the fire pit to witness this sacred ceremony.
Buffet menu
You will be served a buffet-style all-you-care-to-eat Hawaiian menu with traditional island fare and local specialties – including vegetarian and vegan choices as well as gluten-free options to accommodate guests with food allergies or food intolerance.
Rainy Day Policy
One of our favorite things about the The Royal Kona Luau is that it takes place in a beautiful open-air setting by the ocean. While the weather is usually sunny and clear, occasional showers may affect the schedule. If rain prevents the luau from starting outdoors, guests may either reschedule or receive a refund (full if cancelled, or 25% if moved indoors without the Imu ceremony).
If rain interrupts after check-in, refunds depend on how much of the evening has been completed. A partial show after dinner and drinks qualifies for a 25% refund or a “show-only” rain check, while a full dinner with no show qualifies for a 50% refund or a rain check. For safety, management may adjust or cancel the program at any time. By checking in, guests acknowledge this policy.
