About this ride

Peacocks, pigs, sheep and cats roam the check-in area at this ranch near Waiheʻe, and a shuttle takes riders to the horses on another part of its 500 acres. Then you climb single file, mostly at a walk, to about 2,500 feet in the West Maui Mountains, where you may see waterfalls in the distance, depending on weather and season. The second half heads down toward the coast with the ocean in view, though not onto the beach, and guides usually offer a short canter or gallop near the end.

A Maui trail ride with a chance to run the horses

We’d book this ride for the canter or gallop near the end. It’s optional, weather permitting, and it doesn’t happen on every ride. Guides match horses to each rider’s size and experience, and they stop along the trail to take photos of each rider on their own phone. Guides point out plants and local history along the trail. We’d call the steep climb better for riders with some saddle time than for nervous first-timers.

Weight limit and age: check these before you book

The ranch enforces its 215 lb weight limit strictly. You give your weight when you book, then step on a scale at check-in with your gear on, so allow a few pounds for boots, jeans, phone and the ranch’s saddlebag. Over 215 lb, you don’t ride and you don’t get a refund. If you weigh more than 15 lb off what you listed, the ranch may move you to a different horse. Riders must be 7 or older, and minors need an adult on the ride with them.

Meeting point, timing, cancellation and what’s included

Check-in is at 8:15 am, Tuesday to Saturday, at the operator’s parking area on Kahekili Highway near Waiheʻe (3040 Kahekili Hwy, Wailuku). There’s no hotel pickup. The operator puts the drive at about 30 minutes from Kīhei, 40 from Wailea and 15 from Kahului, all routed through Wailuku town, and the full directions come with your booking confirmation.

The ranch shuttle leaves for the horses at 8:30 am, and the morning ends around 11:30 am, with 2 to 2.5 hours in the saddle. Wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Pack sunglasses for the dust and wind, and sunscreen. The ride costs $180 per rider plus taxes and fees.

The ranch provides helmets and saddlebags and serves water and soft drinks. You can hire your own private guide for a $200 add-on. For groups of 1 to 5, cancel by phone at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund or credit (48 hours for 6 to 11 riders, 72 for 12 or more). No-shows pay full price, and you get a full refund or credit if the operator cancels for weather.

The operator’s TripAdvisor rating, 4.8 as of September 2026, covers its horseback rides and its ATV tours together. Most of the morning is a slow, single-file walk, and several riders in 2025 and 2026 saw no waterfalls at all. If a long walk would bore you, or the falls are why you’re going, pick another Maui ride.
