How the stargazing works
The stargazing is naked-eye and guide-led, with no telescope. The guide works through constellations and Hawaiian sky knowledge from a higher-elevation pullout near Mauna Kea, well below the summit. Clouds can roll in at that elevation, and when they do, the guide spends the time on the astronomy talk. Treat a wide-open star field as a bonus rather than a certainty.

You start the day warm on a black sand beach and end it cold at stargazing elevation, so wear layers.
