This ride runs at the water’s edge along Mokuleia Beach, on open sand the whole way. The Pacific is on one side, with a steady sea breeze. Hawaii Polo times check-in so the ride finishes around sunset.
Hawaii Polo runs an active polo operation on the same Waialua property, so several of the trail horses are its working polo ponies, trained to a higher standard than most rental trail horses. The crew matches each horse to your riding ability, and they introduce you to your horse by name at check-in. Complete beginners and experienced riders ride together.
The sand here is too deep to trot or canter, so the pace stays at a walk from start to finish. Every ride includes a stop along the beach where a guide takes photos of the group.

You can sometimes spot sea turtles near the shore, and from roughly winter into spring, humpback whales spout offshore and Hawaiian monk seals sometimes rest on the sand. None of it is guaranteed.
Group ride or private ride
Two versions run at sunset, same route and same horses. The group ride is $188 per person and shared: you may ride with up to 7 other guests, 8 riders in all. The private ride is $218 per person, with a two-rider minimum, and no one outside your group rides along.
Book the group ride to keep the cost down if you don’t mind sharing the beach with a few other riders. Book the private ride for a couple or a family that wants the horses and the guide’s photo stops to itself.

Check-in, timing, and requirements
Check-in is 45 minutes before your posted start time, and that start falls in the 5 to 6 PM window depending on the season and sunset. Give yourself more margin than that: check-in runs slow and loosely organized, so expect to stand around before anyone takes charge. The restroom at the property is basic.
The listed length is 1.5 hours, though rides run 60 to 90 minutes depending on the group and the pace that evening. Plan for 60 minutes.
The trail runs alongside a clothing-optional section of Mokuleia Beach, so keep that in mind if you’re bringing young kids. Leave backpacks and purses behind at check-in; a saddlebag on the horse carries your phone and keys.
Helmets are provided and required. Riders must be at least 8 years old and under 230 pounds. Anyone pregnant cannot ride.
Cancellations and changes inside 48 hours are non-refundable, no exceptions, and no-shows are not refunded. Rides run rain or shine, and the company decides when to cancel for weather.
Book well ahead. In peak season the group ride needs at least 4 riders to run. If you are set on one evening, lock it in before you plan the rest of the trip.
