Kōloa Zipline runs an eight-line course on a 22,000-acre former sugar plantation near Pōʻipū on Kauaʻi’s South Shore. Three of the eight lines rank among the island’s longest; one covers a full half mile. The plantation terrain is open, with water views and a horizon visible from most platforms. You’re covering distance you can see, not threading through canopy. The course begins with a Ground School orientation covering the mechanics before anyone clips in. No prior experience is necessary. Groups cap at 12 guests.
What the Course Covers
After Ground School, guides move the group through eight progressively longer lines. Line 4 uses Kōloa’s proprietary “Flyin’ Kauaʻiian Harness,” which allows hands-free flight. Most riders go prone, face-down. Line 4 is where the course changes register. The prone position and the silence of hands-free flight read differently than every line before it. Guides catch arriving guests at each landing platform. That physical presence at the receiving end is what keeps first-timers confident through the back half of the course.
Tandem riding is available for children. The course is open Monday through Saturday, with tours running between 7am and 6pm. Kōloa operates rain or shine. The no-hold policy applies: if your group is late, the tour departs without you. Plan to arrive early. Departure is at 1 Mahaulepu Rd, Koloa, HI 96756. Adult price is $162; the course runs 3.5 hours. Cancellation requires 48 hours’ notice; guests who purchase Trip Protection at booking can cancel within 24 hours.
Families, mixed groups, and first-timers: what to expect
Mixed groups: some veterans, some first-timers. The Ground School arc is not a formality. Guests cover the mechanics before anyone clips in, and guides give slower riders time at each platform. Guests who described themselves as nervous at the start finish the course. Minimum age is 7; the Flyin’ Kauaʻiian Harness has a weight range of 100 to 280 lbs.
