The luau grounds sit on the Royal Lahaina lawn, set back from Kāʻanapali Beach behind a hedge of palms.

Long tables face the stage and the sunset over the water; general seating is first-come. A dancer performs against the dusk sky over Kāʻanapali. About this luau
The Myths of Maui Lūʻau runs nightly on the oceanfront lawn at the Royal Lahaina Resort on Kāʻanapali Beach, and it has run longer than any other luau on Maui. At $186.41 for general admission, it is the cheapest of the big beach luaus on Kāʻanapali, and the price covers an open bar, an island buffet, and a Polynesian show that ends with a Samoan fire-knife dance.
What the evening includes
On arrival you get a shell lei and an aloha greeting. Dinner is an all-you-care-to-eat buffet of island fare, and the kālua pork comes out of the imu (underground oven) during the ceremony. Expect Hawaiian-style teriyaki chicken, Molokaʻi purple sweet potato, street-market fried rice, and wok-fried vegetables alongside it. Drinks are included: tropical cocktails, beer, wine, and non-alcoholic options.
The Polynesian show follows, with Hawaiian, Tahitian, Samoan, and Māori dance backed by live drums. The Samoan fire-knife dance closes the evening and is the strongest part of the show.
Check-in times and choosing your seats
You pick your specific seats in the booking flow, so book early if you want a spot near the oceanfront edge. The check-in line forms in the resort parking lot with no shade, and the wait often runs 30 to 45 minutes. Times shift with daylight: check-in for general seating starts at 5:30 PM from September through March and 6:00 PM from April through August. Your booking confirmation lists the exact check-in spot and time for your date.
General admission or VIP
General admission at $186.41 covers the buffet, open bar, and the full show. VIP is $265.23 for adults and $186.41 for children 6 to 12, and adds reserved seating and earlier check-in. The stage show looks the same from either section, so general admission is enough for most.
Our take
The dancing is strong, and at the early show the sun sets over the water toward the neighbor islands. The lawn sits back from the sand behind a hedge, and the venue is dated: folding chairs at long tables in a compact space behind the resort. It is an easy walk or short drive from most Kāʻanapali hotels.
The food falls short: the buffet is mediocre and the kālua pork often arrives dry or lukewarm. Book it for the show and the setting, not the meal.
